31 moves on 18 seconds or less, and Bok beats McShane

October 3, 2026 · McShane 0–1 Bok

After 8.Bg5 · Stockfish +0.34 → +0.16

GM Benjamin Bok (2563) beat GM Luke J McShane (2647) in round 5 of the Pall Mall Masters rapid in London, after playing the last 31 moves with 18 seconds or less on the clock.

Bok was down to 12 seconds at move 25. With five seconds added each move, the clock never showed more than 18 again. McShane had seven minutes at that point.

Stockfish's only objection in the opening was 8.Bg5, where it preferred castling, 8.O-O, and even then its count barely moved, from +0.34 to +0.16.

The last move on the relay is 55...Bb8. In that position Stockfish counts 0.00, McShane's clock shows 8 seconds, and the result is 0–1. It was the first of Bok's two rapid wins over McShane that weekend.

Replay it with the clocks running, then take the last position on against the engine.
